Make a life-like disembodied hand with nothing but masking tape, then light it up with an inexpensive string of LEDs. You can even make it programmable with a BBC Micro:bit or Adafruit Circuit Playground Express and free, online MakeCode!

What you need:

• masking tape

• disposable straw, tongue depressor, or stiff paper rolled up into a straw-shaped tube

• LED light strand with batteries (available in dollar stores)

To make it programmable:

• Circuit Playground Express – Base Kit or BBC Micro:bit with batteries and USB cable

• (optional)

  • 8mm nylon conductive tape or 1/4″ Maker Tape

  • cardstock or heavy paper

  • LEDs — standard 3mm or 5mm LEDs, Adafruit Sequins, or an Adafruit NeoPixel LED Strip w/ Alligator Clips
